Thomas Shriver

Thomas Shriver was the mayor of Cumberland, Maryland from 1843-1849, and 1850-1851.

Mayor Shriver made great improvements to the city of Cumberland. Grades were established on all the principal streets of the city, and sidewalks were laid on Mechanic Street almost to its entire length. Baltimore, Liberty, Bedford, and George Streets were paved, and new bridge built over the mill race, and paved with stone. The Blue Spring was improved and walled up, and protected by ordinance. Late in the fall Washington Street was paved to Smallword Street (Lowdermilk, page 352-353).

Thomas Shriver died in New York City on 11 August 1879. He is buried in the Shriver family vault at Rose Hill Cemetery (Cumberland Times, 1843).
