"This Is How It Feels" was a 1990 single by the Inspiral Carpets written by Clint Boon. It was their first single in the Top 40, where it reached number 14 in the UK.[1][2]

The US music video for "This Is How It Feels" was inspired by the imagery of the British art duo Gilbert and George, making use of their signature "stained glass" and grid style and their standard iconography.

The single (radio) mix, remixed by Flood, features a different second verse with more oblique (and hence radio-friendly) lyrics (e.g. the line "seems they found him under a train" replaced by "left a note for a local girl").

The song was later covered by the band Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.

The song is used by Manchester United fans to taunt Manchester City and other rivals, with the lyrics slightly changed:

This is how it feels to be City/This is how it feels to be small/This is how it feels when your team wins nothing at all/Nothing at all...

As a retort to the above, in the 2011/2012 Premier League season, City fans sang the following version to taunt Manchester United as they went on to win the league:

This is how it feels to be City / This is how it feels to be small / You signed Phil Jones, we signed Kun Agüero, Kun Agüero...

Arsenal also adapted the song:

This is how it feels to be Tottenham / This is how it feels to be small / You sold Bale, we signed Mesut Ozil, Mesut Ozil...

Everton now sing as a taunt to Liverpool

This is how it feels to be Everton / This is how it feels to be small / You signed Lambert, we signed Sammy Eto'o, Sammy Eto'o
