"This House" is vocalist Alison Moyet's third single of 1991 from the album Hoodoo.

The single was the most successful single in the UK from the album, peaking at number 40 for a total of five weeks. Moyet's previous single "Wishing You Were Here" only peaked at number 72[1] whilst the lead single "It Won't Be Long" peaked at number 50.[2]

A promotional video was created for the single. Moyet also performed the song in 2009 on The Paul O'Grady Show to help promote her compilation "The Best of: 25 Years Revisited".[3]

The b-side for the single "Come Back Home" was exclusive to the single, written by Moyet and Dave Dix.

The two bonus b-sides for the 12" vinyl and CD singles were "Love Letters" and "That Ole Devil Called Love". Both were released as singles previously. "Love Letters" was released in 1987, peaking at #4 in the UK[4] whilst "That Ole Devil Called Love" was released in 1985, peaking at #2 in the UK.[5]

Background

"This House" was originally recorded in 1987 by Moyet however was not included on the Raindancing album, but was released as the B-side to the 1987 "Love Letters" single in a shorter edit and the "Love Letters" maxi single in a longer version.

It was also recorded as a duet with Andy Bell/Erasure – this version however never surfaced since Sony Music, for reasons unknown, wouldn't allow it to be released.

Columbia Records complained that the single as well as the album wasn't commercial enough.
