Thiagarajar College is a college located in Madurai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The college was founded in 1949.

History

The college was established in 1949 by Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, a 20th-century South Indian philanthropist. Its mission is to provide quality higher education to the rural masses to realize the vision of Mahatma Gandhi. The college is located 4 km south-east of the Temple of Goddess Meenakshi, and has Vaigai to its north and Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam to its south.

The college offered 4 degree programs in 1949, which has now expanded to 38, including 4 certified and 3 diploma courses. The college also has a research center (established in 1978). The college has been autonomous since 1987 and became fully co-ed since 1998.

Faculty

The college is managed by the Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar Memorial Trust. It is a Government-aided institution affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University. Radha Thiagarajan and Karumuttu T. Kannan serve as college president and secretary respectively.
