These Open Fields is the second official full-length release from Chicago intelligent dance music (IDM) artist The Flashbulb (real name, Benn Jordan). The album displays a significant maturation from the first release, . The album has a central theme, unlike the playful experimentation of . Inspired by the death of Jordan's grandfather, it has a darker, more coherent tone.

This was the unofficial first release on Jordan's struggling new upstart label, Alphabasic.

Re-release

These Open Fields (second edition), released September 2002, adds "Taste My Solitude (Longhair Mix)" 2:44 to the end of the album. Its release coinciding with the recording of Resent and the April Sunshine Shed, the song features sitar, used on the latter album.
