Theilman is an unincorporated community in Wabasha County, Minnesota, United States.
The community is located at the junction of Wabasha County Roads 4 and 86.
Theilman was founded in 1846 when the Theilman Family was moving from Daveport, IA to Minneapolis, MN. Hiram Theilman had taken a job at the C.A. Pillsbury and Company that had recently opened an additional mill on the Mississippi River. When the family was going through the Zumbro River Valley the family cow Bessy had become separated and later found at the mouth of the West Indian Creek. Upon looking up and seeing the land across the creek, Hiram stated “Ich bin endlich zu Hausel” which translates to "At last I am at home" in German. He decided we would raise his family in the place that reminded him so much of his homeland of Germany.
Home of Roy's Tavern and his World Famous ChuckWagons.
Theilman is also home to the historic Theilman Opera House which was built in 1913 by brothers Chris and Henry Eggenberger. The Eggenberger brothers were Theilman residents who not only built the Opera House, but also made the cement blocks it was constructed with. Originally, a corporation was formed and the Opera House was owned by a group of Theilman residents. Many years later the Theilman Sportsman Club acquired the Opera House and owns it today. Over the years, the Opera House has hosted three act plays, medicine shows, wedding dances, roller skating and even basketball games. The second level of the Opera House is the ballroom and stage. The main level has a bar area. The rear of the main level was originally partitioned off as a horse barn. There were horse stalls in this area and the local kids were hired to watch the horses while their owners enjoyed a play or a dance. The last wedding dance the Opera House hosted was in the mid 1980’s. The Opera House had sat idle for many years. It had significant deferred maintenance and was need of a major overhaul. Over the last several years with fundraising with ticket raffles, and also the yearly street dance the Theilman Sportsmand club has made huge improvements. Now the Opera House is once again open and available for rent for weddings, graduations, birthdays and other such events.
