Theatrhythm Dragon Quest (シアトリズムドラゴンクエスト Shiatorizumu Doragon Kuesuto) is a 2015 rhythm video game, developed by indieszero and published by Square Enix for Nintendo 3DS. It was released on March 26, 2015, as the first music video game of the Dragon Quest series.[1]

Gameplay

Theatrhythm Dragon Quest features more than 60 songs selected from Dragon Quest I to X, all composed by Koichi Sugiyama. There are three game modes: challenge mode, music-play and Casino. While songs can be unlocked in challenge mode,[2] playable characters can be unlocked in Casino.[3]

Similar as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, there are three unique stage styles: Field (Overworld) Music, Battle Music, and Event (Dramatic) Music, as well as the option to play through the opening and ending themes.

Development

Theatrhythm Dragon Quest was first announced at the Jump Festa 2015 on December 10, 2014, with a playable demo.[4] A trial version was released on March 11.[5] And a smartphone app Intro Quiz Battle was released on March 20, 2015. In the game, players listen Dragon Quest soundtracks for choosing their titles. It'll be shut down on April 30.[6]

Reception

Famitsu scored Theatrhythm Dragon Quest a 35/40.[7] More than 76,000 copies were sold in its first week, making it the best-selling Nintendo 3DS game in that week.[8]
