The Wicked + The Divine is a comic book written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Jamie McKelvie. It is published by Image Comics.
Publication History
Announced on 9 January 2014,[1] the first issue was released in 2014.[2]
As of March 2015, there have been 9 single issues released and a trade paperback. The series is ongoing, intended to run for between 30 and 60 issues.[3]
The narrative focuses on a group of people with superhuman powers known as "The Pantheon". Each member of The Pantheon was at one point a normal person before being chosen to merge with the spirit of a deity. It is said that each cycle of The Pantheon will not live past two years from the start of the series, and that every 90 years the Pantheon is reincarnated.
It was the winner of Best Comic at the 2014 British Comic Awards.[4]
The Pantheon
There are currently at least 12 known members of the Pantheon.
- Amaterasu
- Baal
- Baphomet
- Inanna
- Lucifer (commonly referred to as 'Luci')
- Minerva
- The Morrígan (who appears in 3 incarnations, which have so far been named as "Badb", "Annie" (possibly Anand), and simply "Morrigan" (The Morrigan)
- Sakhmet
- Wōden
- Tara (Unknown, could be Buddhist, Hindu "or Tara from Buffy"[5])
- Dionysus
- Urdr (who appears along with her two sisters Verdandi and Skuld)
Ananke appears to act along with the group, but is also outside of them. Unlike the others she is not a teenager and has aged. She seems to function almost as a parent, so at this stage it is unknown whether she is part of the pantheon of 12 or something outside of that.
