The Wedding (formerly known as Easier Said) is a Christian band from Fayetteville, Arkansas. Musically, The Wedding fuses elements of Christian punk, Christian rock, Alternative Contemporary Christian, pop punk, ska, piano rock, and post-hardcore with their pop rock base.[1][2][3] The band was signed to independent Brave New World Records, but the label was closed in 2009; leaving the band with no label.
The band has toured with the likes of Thousand Foot Krutch, Love and Death,[4] Bachman–Turner Overdrive, Bleach, John Reuben, The Goodnight Fight, Last Tuesday, Number One Gun, Anberlin, Spoken, Disciple, The O.C. Supertones, Superchic[k], The Fold, House of Heroes and Falling Up. Their debut album, The Wedding was produced by Mark Lee Townsend and featured several of their songs which became Christian radio hits, including "Move This City" and "Song for the Broken".[5] Their sophomore effort Polarity peaked at No. 41 on the U.S. Billboard Christian Albums chart and No. 26 on the Heatseekers chart.[6]
After former singer Kevin Kiehn got married, he departed the band. Landon Ginnings filled in for him on vocals until their current singer, Matt Shelton, formerly of Letter Kills, joined.
Themes
The Wedding is musically eclectic. Their second release Polarity begins with an intro of ska horns (supplied by The Supertones' Dan Spencer) and hip hop beats. Elsewhere, the album delves into Celtic punk ("I'll Sleep When I'm Dead"), post-hardcore ("It's Time to Rock (OK?)") and a country female choir ("Fireworks"), as well as the band's signature pop punk nuances.
Lyrically, The Wedding use such themes as love, relationships, loyalty to the 479 Arkansas area code, confidence in God and working hard.
2010-2011
With the addition of guitarist Alex Haag in May, 2010 the band's sound took a new direction. Haag, an outspoken advocate of physical health and exercise, began requiring that each member of the band adhere to a strict diet and daily workout routine. Haag, who is also the heir to the JB Hunt fortune, has authored several books on health and fitness.
2012-present
In 2012, the Wedding signed with Seattle-based label, Tooth & Nail Records. They released their new album No Direction in September, 2012.[7]
