The Urswick School

The Urswick School is a voluntary aided, mixed 11-18, Church of England secondary school located in the Central Hackney area of London, England. There are around 850 pupils on roll. In 2014 the school was named by the Department for Education as one of the Top 100 most improved schools nationwide.[1] This was in recognition of its transformed GCSE results; over the last six years the proportion of students achieving 5+ A* to C grades with English and maths have more than doubled.

Ofsted Report

Following the most recent inspection of the school, in March 2013, Ofsted judged the school to be good with outstanding features.[2] Ofsted praised the ‘exemplary’ behaviour of its students and judged the leadership of the school to be outstanding.

Sixth Form

In 2012 The Urswick School Sixth Form Academy opened, offering a range of A Level qualifications in English, maths, the sciences, history, psychology, sports science, drama, art and many other subjects. Each member of the Sixth Form is given an iPad on long term loan and can apply for paid work within the school. In addition each year two students receive scholarships to study A Levels at Gordonstoun School, a top independent school in Scotland.

Facilities

The school has undergone a £17 million rebuilding programme, on the current site, which was completed during 2011. The first phase of the new building, which includes dedicated suites of rooms for the teaching of English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, was completed during 2010.
