The Sound of Summer Running is a 1997 studio album by jazz bassist Marc Johnson released on the label of Verve Records.[1]

Review

For his album The Sound of Summer Running Marc Johnson has recruited a cream team of jazz musicians including Joey Baron, Pat Metheny, and Bill Frisell. The album has a lot of harmonic blending between the signature guitar tones of Metheny and Frisell that caress the ears and embellish their ideas beautifully. The group appears as a modern quartet showing overwhelming skill and musicianship, creating soundscapes where you are led into the soft surroundings but with surprising twists.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 3 stars.[2] JazzTimes critic Bill Milkowski, in his review of Johnson' album The Sound of Summer Running states:

... Johnson’s Verve debut is bound to send ripples of excitement through the guitar community. “Put Frisell with just about anybody and you’re going to create something exciting,” says Johnson...[2]
