The Sign of the Seahorse

The Sign of the Seahorse Cover

The Sign of the Seahorse is an illustrated children's book by Graeme Base. It was published in 1992. Originally designed by Base to become a narrated concert, the story is composed of two acts, each owning the traditional components of high drama and romance, a hero and villain, and an eventual triumph of "good over evil". Like much of Base's work, The Sign of the Seahorse is written in verse- specifically in rhyming couplets of iambic heptameter, which are then organized into four line stanzas. The book is filled with vibrant illustrations by the author himself. The story follows the members of Reeftown in their journey to protect their beloved coral reef against the greed of an evil grouper and his cronies.
