The Sea (band)

The Sea are a rock pop band formed in Cornwall, England in 2007. The band comprises brothers Peter Vine-Chisholm (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Alex Chisholm (Drums, percussion and backing vocals). They are signed to Lusty Records in the UK and Popup Records in Europe.[1][2]

History

Love Love Love and Get It Back

By April 2008, the duo won the XFM unsigned competition to play at Brixton Academy to 5000 people[3] and went on to support The Enemy at London’s Brixton Academy. By October that year they completed their first extensive tour of the UK AND were invited to play the CMJ Music Marathon in New York.

The Sea’s debut single Love Love Love on their own label Lusty Records sold out within two months of release in January 2009, receiving critical acclaim in the UK music press from NME,[4] Kerrang!,[5] The Fly[6] and was one of Pete Cashmore's singles of the week in The Guardian.[7]

In April 2009 their debut album Get It Back was released in UK on Lusty Records and on Pop Up Records in Europe.

The rest of the year was spent touring the UK and Europe which included supporting Muse at their Teignmouth homecoming gigs in September and CMJ in New York in October. Touring continued into 2010 with their first sold out headline tour in Europe including dates in Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Holland, then culminating into a final performance at South by Southwest (SXSW).

Surfing Accident - Present Day

During the summer of 2010 they recorded the follow up to Get It Back in the Sawmills Studio in Cornwall with producers John Cornfield and Julian Diggle. In August Alex suffered a terrible surfing accident in Cornwall, nearly drowning and breaking his neck, after being airlifted to hospital it was said by doctors he'd be lucky to walk again and very doubtful that he would ever play drums again. Seemingly their career was over. However during this time many of their songs featured on British TV, Don’t You Want Me was featured on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and Silly Love Song was featured on an advert on the 5* Channel[8] Alex's recovery was a long process but after over a year of rehab miraculously he was playing the drums again. In a way of helping rehab their friend James Morrison (UK singer/song writer) offered them a tour support on his UK tour and in Summer 2012 The Sea briefly dipped their toes back in the water and were back on stage again. They released an extremely limited edition album 'Rooftops' to accompany the tour (unavailable in shops this has become a rare collectors item) - the songs were only ever played on that tour as the band cited the album as an experiment and not a representation of who they were. However the single New York received a hugely positive reaction on German radio airplay,[8] as well as being featured on British TV show Hollyoaks.[8] At the end of 2012 the band then suffered another huge set back when their tour van was in a horrific car crash in Belgium. With the vehicle completely destroyed, again Miraculously, both band members walked out alive.
