The Quiet Hype is the electro-pop duo Jupiter Rising's third studio album and was released on March 17, 2009,[1] and is what they call their beat heavy dance album by Seventeen magazine.[2]
Background
The album features an eclectic mix of electro/dance pop, soulful ballads and even the occasional stab at social commentary. The influences vary from pop, rock and hip-hop to dance, electropop, and techno dressed in heavy drums, synths, and guitars. This album differs slightly from their earlier albums, Electropop and Jupiter Rising musically using more spacy synths and live instruments featured on songs like Falling Away, L.A. Girls, and Tres Cool. The inspiration behind album for Spencer "was everything that I wanted to get out and do . Even before it was my project there used to be like six people in this band, and prior to that we all had an idea of where we wanted to go and that somewhere got lost in between pre-production and actually making the record. What we ended up with wasn’t necessarily what I wanted to create but I happened to be the one to own up to it."[3] The sound of this new album is rooted in programmed-electro, but using live instruments on it. "It's live and raw", the band says, "but also a little futuristic with synthesizers. We've been tracking live drums on almost every song and tracking guitars on almost every song, and playing piano and keyboards, but also doing programs with synthesizers and soft synths, and tricks with vocodors and vocals."[4] “We’re making a fresh and electric album with lots of great tracks like “Fallin’ Away,” “Tres Cool” and a shout out to our home LA with ‘LA Girl,’ explains Payo.[5] Guest musicians on new album include: Brent Paschke (guitar); Mike Shapiro (Drums) and Mike Garcon (Keyboards).

The album received some positive reviews. ArtistDirect says that "The Quiet Hype" refuses to stick with one style: its grooves are contemporary.[7] EQ.com has this to say:[8]
At first impression, it looks like a techno cd with its metallic and Tron-like font and over-use of the color purple. I'm a typical guy in that respect, if it's not pretty, I don't pay too much attention - but unwrap the plastic and get over the cd cover and you'll find one helluva pop gem that you weren't quite expecting.
And beyond those two comparisons (Timbaland & The Black Eyed Peas), expect Jupiter Rising to give you some thumping electro and subtle techno blended with heaping scoops of pop powder to enhance your listening pleasure. It's the type of music that gets your love muscles throbbing
Other key tracks on "The Quiet Hype" include "When The Bass Drops" - A masterclass in perfectly orchestrated electro R&B that would leave Nelly Furtado and Fergie quivering in their boots. If you like your pop more uptempo, you'll love the fast-moving and head-bopping "Follow Me". And proving that they can roll with the electro and R&B with the best of them and still deliver a Britney-esqe ballad, you'll fall in love with "Guarded". For those material girls out there, you'll love Jupiter Rising's homage to Prada bags, Gucci shoes, Louie V and Jimmy Choos called "LA Girls". Hey a bands gotta have some bling y'know.
An interview with AceShowBiz.com talks about the album:
ASB: What can fans expect from your new album "The Quiet Hype", compared to the previous one "Electropop"?Spencer: "The Quiet Hype" is a much more consistent sound than "Electropop", and a whole lot more cutting edge!
Jessie: This album is more current and truly projects what Jupiter Rising is. This is the first album that Spence and I wrote together. In comparison to "Electropop" the album, I think that "The Quiet Hype" is current and relates all types of audiences.
ASB: Out of eleven songs in there, which one is your particular favorite? And why?
Spencer: "Follow Me" is my favorite song. Because it (is) the closest to how I live my life.
Jessie: My favorite song is "Over Again". I think it perfectly depicts the kind of relationship that ends and starts again only to be discovered as doomed. I think a lot of us have been there and I think a lot of girls will relate to the situation. I've seen it lived out through friends and my own personal experience. Beside that, I also love the driving guitars and rock influence that I always wanted to express in my music. You know, I just wanna rock (laughing).
ASB: After "Falling Away", what will be the next single?
Spencer: Without a question next single is "L.A. GIRLS"!!!!!
Jessie: I'm guessing it will be "L.A. Girls" due to the response it had after being played on "The Hills".

Wildy World finds Falling Away a surprising choice for lead single from The Quiet Hype and think Tres Cool, the likely second single, should have gained the first spot. The only justification for holding Tres Cool back is that it’s a perfect summer hit. Expect to hear it everywhere this summer; it’s a can’t miss single. Guarded could make for an interesting release. Although not as dynamic as Tres Cool, it has interesting vocal triad harmonies very reminiscent of Wilson Phillips. "Flip My Switch is bound for the hard core dance club scene. That it lacks in subtlety it make up for in pure glam and raw sexuality. The Quiet Hype is a personal favorite, as it lets Payo show off her vocal skills in a more relaxed setting. While still heavily produced, Payo gets to play with some seriously constructed harmonies. Payo has a perfect rock/pop voice with just enough edge to be memorable. Over Again is another mover and shaker. It’s a great pop tune, heavily produced but none the worse for wear.L.A. Girls is a fun listen, trashing the gimme-gimme culture of Los Angeles (“Prada Bag, Gucci Shoes, Louis V, Jimmy Choos”). Other highlights are Follow Me, Snakeskin and When The Bass Drops.
Wildy's World calls it a highly entertaining dance album in The Quiet Hype that should gain significant commercial traction. And if it’s not the most intellectual music in the world, who cares? Who wants to think while they’re dancing?[9]
