The People’s Couch is an American reality television series which premiered on October 8, 2013 on Bravo.[1] It is based on the British television series Gogglebox.[2] It started as a three-episode limited series that featured real people watching and discussing on popular television shows and news from the past week.[1]
Bravo later picked up the series for a full 12-episode season,[3][4] and expanded the series into one-hour episodes beginning June 3, 2014.[5] Bravo renewed The People's Couch for a second season which premiered on October 7, 2014.[6]
Format
Each episode of the series is split into separate segments, corresponding to the shows the groups watch. Not every group is featured in every segment, and each segment is often filmed on a different day of the week. The shows featured on the show range from cable to network television series and from scripted to unscripted, numerous of which air on Bravo.[4]
Cast
The Egber Family: father Andrew, mother Julie, and sons Samuel and Jack. The only group to lay in a bed rather than sit on a couch, the boys and their mother are much more enthusiastic about reality television, but their father warms to many of their favorite shows.
Blake McIver Ewing, former child star, now go-go dancer and indie singer, Scott Nevins, model, and Emerson Collins, actor and producer, are three openly gay best friends who enjoy The Real Housewives franchise, and are the first to comment on the competitors’ talent (or lack thereof) for shows like The Voice.
The Zeno Family: father Lamont and son Rashawn are singer/songwriters, and much softer spoken than wife/mother Princella, a choreographer, but all three aren’t afraid to voice their opinion when a show doesn’t end the way they think it should.
Julie Goldman, comedian, actress and out lesbian, with her best friend and writing partner, Brandy Howard, aren’t shy in pointing out the absurdity of the more outlandish personalities and stunts in reality television and mocking them openly. Brandy's three small dogs often watch with them.
The Resnick Family: father Joe is the quietest, whereas daughters Sarah, Rachel, and Nicole, when not disagreeing over the merit of a particular show, are crying, laughing, or yelling in unison.
