The Passing Bells is a British-Polish drama war television series that was first broadcast on BBC One. The series is set during World War I and is a part of the BBC First World War centenary season.[4] It featured the Western Front, the Gallipoli Campaign, the Battle of the Somme, the Eastern Front, and the American Expeditionary Forces.[4] The five-part drama is written by Tony Jordan.[4][5][6][7]

Cast

A cast of young British men from Cardiff and German actors play their supporting battalions, including Charles Furness, Brian Fletcher, Wilf Scolding, Hubert Burton, Felix Auer, Ben McGregor, Mark Burghagen and Matthew Aubrey.[8]

Production

The series was announced by the BBC on 16 October 2013, along with other programmes that will play a part in the BBC World War I centenary season.[4] It is a Red Planet Production with BBC Worldwide as the distributor.[9] Filming took place in Poland. Telewizja Polska and Apple Film Production are co-producers.[10][11][12] It was broadcast on five consecutive days on BBC 1 from 3 November 2014.[13]

The title was taken from Wilfred Owen's Anthem for Doomed Youth.[14]
