The Oslo Times (TOT) (founded in 2011) is the largest online English news daily in Norway. Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, it is among the few online news dailies in Norway to exclusively publish news and other news articles in English. Afghan-born Norwegian human rights activist, author, editor, political analyst on Afghanistan, and journalist, Mr. Hatef Mokhtar is the founder and editor-in-chief of TOT.

Today, The Oslo Times is an international media organization with its presence in more than 32 countries. It is also among the fastest growing media organizations in Scandinavia, and works via a network of journalists, freelancers, regional news partners, volunteers, and human rights activists across geographies.

History

The Oslo Times was founded in 2011 as a Nonprofit organization[1] by Human rights Activist, journalist, author, editor, and political analyst on Afghanistan, Mr. Hatef Mokhtar. TOT was founded to create and provide a platform for the promotion of human rights across the globe. Since its inception, it has singularly focused on War crime and human rights violations. It has interviewed [2] individuals who work in the field of human rights, and some of these interviews[3] include interviews with Afghan politician - Jamil Karzai;[4] Swedish MP[5] - Carl Fredrik Malm;[6] Member of the European Parliament - Tarja Cronberg,; Member of the Syrian National Coalition - Ausama Monajed; and Secretary General of Amnesty International - John Peder Egenæs.

Today, The Oslo Times also features international news and other news items including world events, human rights, special reports, lifestyle, opinions, and exclusive interviews with world political leaders and other dignitaries. It has been at the forefront of supporting Democracy and human rights via its select coverage on the Special Reports, Op-Ed, and Editorial sections on the website.

The Oslo Times’s stance on individual freedom and democracy is reflected in its recent interviews with world political figures such as Mariana Câmpeanu, Romanian Minister of Labor; Mamuka Tsikhelashvili, Ambassador of Georgia in Norway; Khaled A. Al-Nafisee, Saudi Arabia Ambassador in Norway; Emir Poljo, Ambassador of Bosnia – Herzegovina in Norway; Nurlan Mussin, Chargé d'affaires a.i. Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Norway; and Emil Constantinescu, former President of Romania among others. These interviews reveal sharp and rare insights into several current political and international issues including human trafficking, Exploitation of laborers, Gender equality, democracy, poverty, Protection of the rights of religious and ethnic minorities across the globe, War crimes, communism, individual freedom, and immigration.

The Oslo Times has always been and continues to remain a sharp critic of Dictatorship and Fascism. It has become one of the most outspoken media houses in international journalism. It believes in Nonviolence, Liberty, Freedom of speech, and Freedom of the press. Due to its unflinching coverage of human rights violations, it has come under attack including the coverage of human right abuses in West Papua (Indonesia), issues faced by journalists in Romania, plight of Canadian human rights activist Kevin Mugur Galalae, the Bahrain uprising, and the Rohingyas’ genocide in Myanmar.

The Oslo Times is also an online avant-garde news medium that features entertainment, sports, technology, environment, and fashion.

Political Stance

TOT is an independent media organization that does not represent or support any single party, institution, or ideology. This belief has been summarized on TOT website[7] as their - “ideology is to speak out for the freedom-loving oppressed and suppressed people of the world and support their struggle via our independent publication.”

Media Activities

The Oslo Times team includes an international pool of journalists, writers, and contributors from across the globe, namely, the Americas, Australia, Norway, India & the SAARC region, Qatar, Indonesia, and France. The TOT website is functional and accessible round-the-clock for seven days a week.The TOT Op-Ed section [8] The regular columnists who contribute to TOT are Fadi Elhusseini, Irena Schneider, and Ursula Gelis among others. TOT practices and adheres to the code of Norwegian Media Ethics.
