The second amd final season of the New Zealand reality talent show The One began on 4 August 2013 on TV2. It is a talent show segment created within kids television show "What Now". Anyone between the age of 5-14 can audition for the show. The show is hosted by Adam Percival, with Gem Knight and Ronnie Taulofo as co-presenters. The winner receives a cash prize of $5,000 and a chance to record music with Illegal Musik. New Zealand singer Brooke Duff, Illegal Musik CEO Mark Arona and TV personality Erin Simpson were the seasons judges.
On 13 October 2013, Mia Downing was announced as the winner of the series, with Micah Heath and Ralph Zambrano coming in 2nd and 3rd place.
Development
The One was created by Mediaworks in New Zealand. The One is based on the talent show "New Zealand's Got Talent".
The series' broadcast sponsor is Mediaworks, with Illegal Musik and TV2 as programme partners.[2]
The initial search of applicants were called to register in early July 2013 with the pre-audition/audition tour of 6 towns and cities being held in July and early August 2013, the televised auditions rounds are filmed immediately after the pre auditions.
Selection Process
Online-auditions
The first appeal for applicants was made on June 2013, with the announcement of the application process and pre-audition tour details. Applicants had to submit a form and send in a recording of their performance. Selecred acts would then receive an email telling them whether they had made the Pre-auditions in front of the show's producers.
Pre Audtions
Pre Auditions began in July 2014 and travelled through 6 locations around New Zealand.[3][4]

Judges' auditions
The auditionees chosen by the producers were invited back to the last set of auditions that took place in front of the judges and a live studio audience.[5] These auditions were filmed straight after pre auditions from December 2013 to January 2013 and broadcast from 15 February.Tbe successful auditionees were put into group 5 separated into 8 heats. The public would then vote on What Now's website on who they would like to progress through to the next round. The three acts with the most votes in each heat would then progress to the semi final round.[6]
Semi Final Round
All successful acts from each heat were then split up into two heats of seven. The acts auditions would be re aired and the public would vote on three acts in each heat to progress through to the live shows.
Judges and host
In June 2013, Adam Percival was confirmed to return as the host of the first series.[7]
In June all three original judges confirmed that they would return to judge the second series; Brooke Duff, Erin Simpson and Mark Arona.[8]
Heats
As this season was tighter only 100 acts were successful at pre auditions a drop from 160. Als only 30 acts were selected to progress through to the televised auditions, a drop from 40. The acts were then split into five heats of six The public then voted on What Now's website and the two acts with the most votes per heat progressed through to the next round.
