The Night Tourist is a children's fantasy novel by Katherine Marsh, first published in 2008. It is the first book in the Jack Perdu series and received the Edgar Award for Best Juvenile Mystery.
Plot summary
The Night Tourist centers on a ninth-grade boy named Jack Perdu who is suddenly able to see ghosts. Jack's mother died some time ago, but Jack attempts to re-connect with her through the spirit realm. Jack meets the ghost of a girl (named Euri) who introduces him to a place in New York City inhabited by ghosts.
Reception
The Night Tourist was positively received. Publisher's Weekly described this book as being both compelling and satisfying, describing it as a reworking of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth.[1] As well, this novel won the Edgar Award for Best Work of Juvenile Fiction (2008). [2]
