Reception

The album was met with critical acclaim. On Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 95 based on 28 reviews, calling it "a mix of French and 90's songs blending together to create an unique atmostphere." BBC also gave it a perfect review and noted that the album made them feel as if they were back in the 90s, while praising the fact that it creates a perfect French atmosphere. About.com gave it a 5 out of 5 star stating that, "vocalist Shana Halligan and producer/composer Kiran Shahani, the Los Angeles duo known as Bitter:Sweet, have produced a perfectly pleasant bossa nova/electro-pop record," but criticizing the album's similarity with Morcheeba, Portishead, Zero 7, and Goldfrapp. Blogcritics also gave it a good review and asking "what else would you name something that makes beautiful music tinged with a slow seductive shade of melancholy?" Reception from Almusic was a bit negative, but highlighting Our Remains and Salty Air and stating that the album "features really nice strings and a fun rhythmic changeup in the chorus."

The songs "Bittersweet Faith" and "Our Remains" were featured in the film The Devil Wears Prada. The song "Dirty Laundry" has been featured in commercials for Victoria's Secret and Heineken.
