The Laws of Scourge is the second studio album by the Brazilian extreme metal band Sarcófago. It was during this time that the band's lyrical content had begun to shift from Satanism, choosing to delve into more "realistic" topics. For example, "Midnight Queen" is about a prostitute, while "Screeches From The Silence" is about living "in the fast lane". The album also marked a change in the band's musical style, moving from their signature hyperspeed black to technical death metal, and the sound quality had improved from I.N.R.I. This was also the last full-length record to feature a drummer, as from "Hate" onwards, the band would use a drum machine.
