The Latency was a Canadian pop rock band from Maple Ridge. They formed in 2006 from the remains of three previous bands. They have since signed to Maple Music and released their self-titled debut album on September 8, 2009. They will be releasing a second album in 2011.

On September 1, 2010 it was announced through a Ustream chat that drummer Jonny Wiebe had left the band. No permanent replacement was ever chosen.

It was announced on December 4, 2011 that the band had decided to part ways.

Early years

The Latency originally consisted of Brandon Lehti (vocals), Ryan Stead (guitar), and Mathew Gendron (bass). Stead and Gendron approached Lehti about starting The Latency after their previous band disbanded. They were attracted to the singer's impressive vocal skills while playing a local show together in 2006. They continued in this form, with Lehti on drums, for a couple months until guitarist, Ryan Stead met up with Tommy Mac, bassist of multi-platinum recording group Hedley. Mac would go on to produce the band's full length album as well as manage the group. It was decided that Lehti would be more useful as a frontman, trading his position on drums for a spot up front on guitar. The band picked up Jonny Wiebe on drums in 2007 in preparation for the band's first studio release, "CHOMP!!"

Development

The Latency's first studio recording, "CHOMP!!", was independently released in July 2008. It featured six songs and was supported by various Canadian tours with bands including Hedley, State of Shock, Shiloh, Faber Drive, Ten Second Epic, and Marianas Trench. The EP put The Latency's name on the Canadian music scene. The band's first single, "Tonight, I Love You", gained heavy rotation on most major radio stations across Canada. They also released a video for the song in 2009 which would hit #1 on MuchMusic's Daily Ten various times. Although the band was able to achieve this overwhelming success independently, in 2009, they signed with Maple Music Recordings in Canada, spawning a re-release of CHOMP!! in stores as well as a new video for their second video single, "Kids". "All You Wanted" was simultaneously released to radio in Summer 2009 in preparation for the early-September release of the album.

Late November 28 the band made an announcement on their MySpace and facebook pages stating their current tour was canceled. The message posted was: "Due to a need for an emergency medical procedure within the band, The Latency will be forced to drop off the remainder of their Winter ’09 tour." Nothing was stated of to who this regarded but there were rumors that it involved lead guitarist Ryan Stead. This message can be read on their official website, Myspace and facebook page.

As of January 2010, it was confirmed that guitarist Ryan Stead had a heart infection and needed surgery. Because of this they were forced to cancel the rest of their tour at the end of 2009. As of January 7, 2010, Ryan posted on his facebook account that his heart infection is gone, and that he's very grateful for the fans support during that time.

The Latency (2009)

On September 8, 2009 The Latency released their first label-supported, self-titled album with Maple Music. The album included twelve songs, six of which were reworked from the previous EP, the other six being brand new material.[2] 85% of stores in Canada were sold out of the album during the first week it was released.

The video for their third single, "Fork In The Road", was filmed in Toronto, Ontario in January 2010.

In November 2010 their song "Tonight, I Love You" was featured on CTV's hit show, Degrassi.
