The Kempe Center

The Kempe Center is an institution founded in 1972 by Dr. C. Henry Kempe to improve the prevention and recognition of child maltreatment. The original grant was award number 6 from the new Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the original name was the National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. It was renamed after Dr. Kempe's death. The Center hosts multidisciplinary evaluations and treatment of families as well as being active in advocacy.

Work

The organization states the following as its mission: "The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect improves the care and well-being of all children by strengthening families, communities and the systems that serve them. We believe abuse and neglect are preventable, that children are resilient, and that supportive care can bring health and hope." <http://TheKempeCenter.org>

Programs

Eight programs have been set up in order to complete these objectives, some in cooperation with other institutions.[1]
