The Game Creators, Ltd. (often stylised "tgc") is a British game development software company formed through a partnership between programmer Lee Bamber and Rick Vanner in 1999,[2] located in Macclesfield, Cheshire, United Kingdom. The company was formerly known as Dark Basic Software Limited.

The company primarily develops and markets game development tools for the PC.[3] Some of the products they have created include DarkBASIC, its successor, DarkBASIC Professional, The 3D Gamemaker, Play Basic, DarkGDK, FPS Creator and FPS Creator X10. Their most recent release, App Game Kit, is different from their other products as it compiles for a range of different platforms including smartphones and tablets.[4]

The company also electronically publishes a number of other game development tools and utilities made by other parties, such as 3d modeling tools and media. In the past, they published a small number of computer games.

History

In 2005, The Game Creators acquired AlienCodec, a small game development company. The AlienCodec product range is now distributed by The Game Creators, with the original company existing only as a wholly owned brand of The Game Creators Ltd.[5]

Recently, the company has branched out and created a number of games for the iPhone and iPod Touch platform.[6][7]

In November 2009, The Game Creators celebrated its 10th anniversary by offering free downloadable copies of DarkBASIC Professional and a model pack for FPS Creator.

In 2012, The Game Creators released the Freedom Engine and the App Game Kit (AGK).

In February 2015, The Game Creators announced that one of their primary development projects, FPSCreator: ReLoaded, would undergo a name change to "GameGuru". TGC also announced that the re-branded software would take on an expanded set of supported game development genres, going beyond FPS development and behaving more like a general game development platform.[8]

Game Guru

In November 2012, the company launched a campaign aiming to raise funds for the development of a new version of FPS Creator called "Reloaded", using crowd funding site Kickstarter. Despite the eventual failure to secure funding, a private investor agreed to fund development and The Game Creators began to accept funding using an internal system. As of October 2013, a beta version is in development [9] with a limited release scheduled for 31 October 2013.Today they have released a jetpack and created a store for selling models music and skyboxes with scripts coming out soon. The game creators made a competition with morning mountain stroll coming first out of 10 who made it [10]

FPS Creator Reloaded has been renamed Game Guru and is now available on Steam as early access, since February 27th, 2015.
