The Endless Summer Tour is the upcoming first official concert tour by American recording artist Lana Del Rey in support of her second studio album under the aforementioned stage name, Ultraviolence (2014). The tour, which was announced on December 1, 2014, is scheduled to visit twenty-one cities across North America starting on May 7, 2015 in The Woodlands, Texas and concluding June 16, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The first eight shows of the North American leg will be supported by Courtney Love, the former frontwoman of the band Hole, who will be promoting her latest solo effort, Died Blonde (2015). Ten of the final thirteen shows will feature the Canadian musician Grimes as the opening act.
Background
At the premiere of her self-written short film, Tropico, in December 2013, it was announced by Del Rey herself that she would be releasing her third studio album, Ultraviolence (2014), the following year.[1] Preceded by its singles "West Coast" and "Shades of Cool", Ultraviolence debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the United States with sales of 182,000 becoming Del Rey's first album to score that position on the chart.[2]
After Del Rey concluded a series of concerts in support of her second studio album, Born to Die, and third extended play, Paradise, with two shows at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in October 2014, there was much speculation of an upcoming tour in support of the singer's latest studio album.[3]
During an interview with the Australian press in July 2014, Courtney Love, former frontwoman of the punk rock band Hole, expressed an interest in working with artists such as Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey.[4] Within the following months, Love continued to hint at a collaboration between her and Del Rey publicly through her Twitter account.[5]
On December 1, 2014, Del Rey announced the North American leg of the tour which consists of seventeen shows beginning on May 7, 2015 in The Woodlands, Texas and ending on June 16, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Along with the tour's announcement also came information of Love co-headlining the first eight shows of the tour with Del Rey to promote Love's latest solo effort, Died Blonde (2015).[6]
Presale tickets for the tour began shortly after the tour's announcement on December 4, 2014 with the public sale beginning after that on December 6, 2014. According to WKRG-TV, many of the tour dates are quickly selling out and it is expected that more dates will be announced as the tour progresses, though it is unknown whether Love will be joining Del Rey on the additional dates of the tour.[7]
In January and February 2015, it was announced that Del Rey would be headining multiple music festivals later that year. The first performance annouced will be at the Governors Ball Music Festival on June 7, 2015 at Randalls and Wards Island in New York City. This performance will mark Del Rey's first live performance in New York since 2012.[8] The second announced performance will be at the Sasquatch! Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington on May 24, 2015.[9][10]
