The Emperor of Ice-Cream is a 1965 coming-of-age novel[1] by Northern Irish-Canadian writer Brian Moore. Set during the Second World War, the book tells the story of Gavin Burke, who joins the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) over his father's objections.[1] The novel is based in part on Moore's own wartime experiences.[2] Its title is taken from Wallace Stevens' poem "The Emperor of Ice-Cream".
