Classical Academy High School (CAHS) is a public charter school located in Escondido, California. First enrollment began in 2006, offering grades 9 and 10. In 2007, 11th grades positions were open. Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year, CAHS offered grades 9-12. The Principal for CAHS is Mr. Dana Moen.

CAHS is currently under the leadership of Principal, Dana Moen. CAHS is part of the Classical Academies (The Classical Academy, Coastal Academy, and Classical Academy High School) which are all overseen by the Executive Director, Cameron Curry.


Mission Statement

The mission of Classical Academy High School is to partner with parents in preparing 9th-12th grade students in a Personalized Learning environment that encourages competent, lifelong learners ready for college, career, and citizenship.

Program Choices

CAHS offers 4 program choices for students: Studio, Flex, Family, or Blended.

Studio– This program allows students to take all of their courses on campus Tuesday – Friday with a credentialed teacher.

Online- This program allows students to take all of their classes online with access to teachers in the cybercafe.

Family– This program allows students to take all of their courses off site under the supervision of a credentialed teacher and their parent or guardian.

Blended– This program allows students access to studio, community college, and/or on-line classes as well as courses taken at home under the supervision of a credentialed teacher.

Academics

Classical Academy High School (CAHS) strives to prepare all students for college, career, and citizenship by teaching a rigorous and relevant curriculum that meets California state content standards as well as the University of California A-G requirements.

A wide range of college prep, honors, Advanced Placement, and elective classes are available for students to choose from. Current Advanced Placement courses include US History, Calculus AB, Statistics, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Biology, World History and Government. Elective choices at CAHS include: Art, Digital Art, Photography, Speech, Yearbook, Drama, Music Appreciation, Choir, Play Production, Robotics, ASB Leadership, Work Experience, and Teacher’s Aide. Students also have the ability to take elective classes at a local community college or through the local Regional Occupation Program.

CAHS follows a “Quarter System,” similar to a typical college schedule. Students are able to focus on 3-4 courses at a time. The majority of the courses are considered “Accelerated” where a year’s worth of content is covered in 18 weeks. Courses that meet for a full 36 weeks include all levels of math, Advanced Placement courses, physical education, and some of the elective classes.

The average class size is 20-25 students.

Mascot

The official mascot for Classical Academy High School is the Caiman.

Sports

CAHS is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and participates in the Division V Citrus League. CAHS offers the following sports for the 2012-13 school year: Fall: Football, Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, Winter: Boys and Girls Soccer, and Boys Basketball Spring: Golf, Swimming (Division II Valley league), Track and Field, Baseball, Softball. The athletic teams at Classical Academy High School are known throughout the league for their great sportsmanship and integrity. The Boy's Golf team brought the vary first league title to CAHS in 2011-12.The Boys soccer team won the league championships in 2012 and 2013. The Girls Varsity Volleyball team brought home the CIF Championship banner in 2013.

Associative Student Body

Judy Zavrskey is the current adviser of the ASB. ASB oversees all extracurricular school activities, including Spirit Week, Film Festival, Movie Night, Homecoming, Prom, Senior Trip and the end of the year dance. ASB also oversees student/staff recognition, School Lunches, and Student Clubs. Current student clubs include a Revival Club, Martial Arts Club, the Secular club, and the Caimans Actively Helping and Serving club.
