The Bachelorette (Australian TV series)

The Bachelorette (or sometimes The Bachelorette Australia) is an Australian version of the American reality television series adapted from the same name. The series, produced by Shine Australia will screen in 2015.[1]

The series is a spin-off of The Bachelor with the bachelorette in season one of The Bachelorette Samantha Frost, aged 25, formerly appearing in season two of The Bachelor with Blake Garvey, a Perth real estate auctioneer.

Plot

The series revolves around a single bachelorette (deemed eligible) and a pool of romantic interests, which could include a potential husband. The conflicts in the series, both internal and external, stem from the elimination-style format of the show. Early in the season, the bachelorette goes on large group dates with the men, with the majority of men eliminated. As the season progresses, men are also eliminated on one-on-one dates and on elimination two-on-one dates. The process culminates with hometown visits to the families of the final few men, overnight dates, should they choose to accept, at exotic locations with the final three men, and interaction with the bachelorette's family with the final two men.

Season one

The Bachelorette for season one, Samantha Frost, was selected by Blake Garvey, a Perth real estate auctioneer in season two of The Bachelor. Garvey proposed to Frost in South Africa, to which she accepted. Before the finale aired, Network Ten had cancelled all media interviews, leading to speculation the winner would decline a marriage proposal.[2] On October 6, 2014, it was reported that Garvey had ended the relationship and that he and Frost were no longer engaged, with Frost stating she was "completely blindsided" by his decision.[3] During an interview with Carrie Bickmore on The Project, Garvey declined to answer wether or not he was involved with anyone else. On October 10, 2014, it was reported that Garvey was in a relationship with second runner-up Louise Pillidge.[4] Garvey confirmed to Woman's Day that he and Pillidge were dating and that he had broken up with Frost two weeks before the finale aired.[5]
