The American School of Marrakesh (ASM) is a not-for profit, independent school in Marrakech, Morocco. It offers classes from kindergarten to 12th grade.

History

ASM was founded in 1995 by Joseph A. McPhillips III, who was the headmaster of The American School of Tangier until 2007.[1]

Its headmasters have been McPhillips (1995-2005), Josh Shoemake (2005-2008).[2][3] Mark Simpson (2008-2009), Bryan Lewallen (2009-2010). The building was designed by the Tunisia-born, Marrakech-based architect Charles Boccara;[4] its grounds were designed by American landscape architect Madison Cox.

The first graduating senior class was the class of 2008.

Curriculum

An independent private institution located on the outskirts of Marrakech, Morocco, ASM offers English-language, American-system education from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The school does not follow any specific curriculum. As the school tries to become a candidate for Accreditation Status through the Middle States Association, standards and curriculum are slowly being developed and put into place.

Students must take about three years of math, four years of English, three years of History, and three years of Science in order to graduate. Students must also take some French and/or Arabic classes to expand their language skills.
