The Adderall Diaries is an upcoming American crime-thriller film directed and scripted by Pamela Romanowsky, based on a "true-crime memoir" book of the same name by Stephen Elliott. The film stars James Franco, Ed Harris and Amber Heard.

Production

Director Pamela Romanowsky met Franco at New York University while attending the MFA Film Program. After collaborating together on a short film he hired her to direct The Adderall Diaries as he had previously purchased the rights.[2]

On June 5, 2014 Christian Slater was set to star in the film, he'll play a man suspected of killing his ex-wife.[1]

on April 24, 2015 the film was acquired by A24 in the United States, the deal also contained DirecTV which the film will be released on DirecTV's demand service before a theatrical release.[3]


Filming

The shooting of the film began on May 16, 2014 in Brooklyn.[4] On May 23, filming was underway in New York City.[5]

Reception

Author Stephen Elliot reviewed the film negatively saying that the final result had little in common with his memoir and wondering "why calling the character Stephen Elliott was necessary."[6]

Release

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 16, 2015. Shortly after the premiere, its distrbuted rights were acquired by A24 and DIRECTV as the film would premiere on DirecTV before a theatrical release.[7]
