That Bass Tour is the first headlining concert tour by American recording artist and songwriter Meghan Trainor, launched in support of her debut studio album, Title. Trainor initially announced the tour with only the North American dates, later announcing tour dates in Australia, Europe and Asia. Sheppard was scheduled to open for Trainor's shows in North America. The stage was simple, it featured "a Disney-esque Electric Light Parade light show in the background", and Trainor in the centre, surrounded by four singers/dancers. Early shows in North America were described as Disneyesque and G-rated and as appealing to a mixed but mostly female audience of adults and children, with Trainor frequently interacting with the audience and promoting themes of confidence, self-empowerment and a positive body image.[1][2][3][4][5]
Background and development
That Bass Tour was the debut solo concert tour by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. The tour was intended to showcase songs from Trainor's fourth studio album, Title released in 2015. However, the set list also contained a special segment of her show as a tribute to Mark Ronson's song "Uptown Funk" featuring Bruno Mars. The stage was simple, it featured "a Disney-esque Electric Light Parade light show in the background", and Trainor in the centre, surrounded by four singers/dancers.[1]
Synopsis and reception
Annabel Ross of The Sydney Morning Herald described the show in her review: "The concert plays out like a pantomime, with Trainor offering words of encouragement and self-love between songs, occasionally plucking people from the crowd for a selfie or singalong."[6] The show opens with "Dear Future Husband" which encourages "young women to stand up for themselves and not be subservient or a doormat." The show also features a special segment, as a tribute to Mark Ronson's song "Uptown Funk" featuring Bruno Mars.[2]
Carlee Wright of USA Today reviewed the show positively. She was positive of Trainor's energy during the show, saying: "Trainor opened the night on a strong note with Dear Future Husband and delivered an engaging, energetic show throughout her hour-long performance. She interacted with the crowd, not just between songs, but during too, encouraging fans to sing along, clap and dance. Riotous cheering after each song helped maintain the electric energy contained within the venue."[5] She also added that "Trainor may not have a wide selection of music yet, but her songs are dynamic and relatable. For her first album and first tour, the sassy blonde brought her A-game. Her performance was stellar musically and production-wise."[5]
