Thana Bhawan is a small town in Shamli District in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the place of BRAHMANS before the British and Mughals. In the 18th century it was home to mostly Hindu and Muslim families..Its name after Devi Bhawan. It is situated on Delhi Saharanpur highway around 120 km from Delhi.

Religions

This is the town where both the Hindu and Muslim families living with the feeling of brotherhood. Baba Satdayal Ashram , Panchtirthi Mandir , 'Devi Bhavan' is also situated in Thana Bhawan.

Education

There are four Inter colleges: Kisan Inter College, Lala Lajpat Rai Inter College and Lala Lajpat Rai Kanya Inter College, Arpan Senior Secondary School, and Alpine International School.There are high schools: Sanatan Dharm Higher Secondary School.(S.D.Public School)situated by Late Dr. Som Dutt Gupta and Saraswati Public Junior High School situated by Late Dr. V.P. Jindal.

There is only one college called Chaudhary Atar Singh Degree College which are affiliated to C. C. S. University, Meerut. which offers art courses . It was opened with the objective to provide higher education to the town people so that they can study at their town and not to travel to nearby city for graduation.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Thana Bhawan had a population of 31,183. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Thana Bhawan has an average literacy rate of 47%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 54%, and female literacy is 39%. In Thana Bhawan, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Thana Bhawan is also a state constituency itself, which has nearly 240,000 voters. Since Hundreds of years ,It has a base of Raikwal Rajputs,their descendants still live there.

During Independence Movement

In Thana Bhawan, Muslims declared Haji Imdadullah their Ameer. In May 1857 the Battle of Shamli took place between the forces of Haji Imdadullah and the British.
