Geography
Thallacheruvu (Telugu: తాళ౪చెరువు) is located at 16.453691_N_80.303879_E_ in Achampet Mandal, situated towards north-west of Guntur, in the state of Andhrapradesh in India. Thallacheruvu is a small and beautiful village located 5 km from Atchampet Mandal, Guntur District. Thallacheruvu is 70 KMS from its districts main city guntur. The capital of Residual Andhra Pradesh is 40 to 45 KMS from the village. The people who live there belong to Catholic/Christian community.
It is named Thallacheruvu because of big number of palm trees and huge lacks in and around the village. The village was established by a Catholic religious priest named "Arulananda Swamy", along with some people from different villages.
There are around 5000 people living in this village. The people belong to Roman Catholic community. The village is surrounded by mountains on three sides and river on the east side. People over here cultivate paddy, chilli and cotton for their living.
People over here are warm, hospitable and are friendly. The people in the village have very good relation to each other. Most of them are relatives living together spreading harmony and peace in the entire village.
It is absolutely a beautiful place to live in.
Those who visit this village mostly trek the forest surrounding the hills. There are some heritage of hillstation people who used to live on the hills. on top of the hill you find a spring of water which never dries and tastes very sweet. These water is useful for drinking on top of the hills. The view of the village and krishna river from top of the hill is wonderful. The forest is inhabited by many animals; sometimes tigers too are found.
Cultivation
The people of Thallcheruvu cultivates the food crops rice and commercial crops like cotton, mirchi. They depend upon the Krishna River water and as well as on seasonal rains for the cultivation. The people are always enthusiastic in adopting new techniques in cultivation. Currently most of the village are adopting drip irrigation which gives good yield with less wastage of water.
Significance
Infant Jesus Church was built in 1950 under the supervision of Rev. Fr.Arulananda Swamy. And the village is famous for unity in diversity among people. People are very faithful here.December 25, the Christmas Day, is celebrated as the Feast of the Village every year on a very grand scale. For over Fifty years, for the people of the place, Christmas has been the "Big Feast". The celebration is marked by profound faith and fascinating festivity.
And also they celebrate Arulananda Swamy(Village Founder) feast on May 18 as village festival every year.. This feast which falls in the summer is also a big occasion for every one who belongs to this village to come closer to share happieness and harmony. There are some Hindu and Muslim families in this village, irrespective of their religions attend this festival with faith. This village has post office and good road transportation to district headquarters, taluk and mandal headquarters.
Church has played an active role in the development of the village.
Education
St. Ann's Sisters started a convent and a primary school and St.Ann's Sisters of Phirangipuram started High school in 1983 in this village. There are good number of students who are educated in different streams, and settled down in various parts of the world.
Politics
Most of the Thallacheruvus vote for the person who will develop the village. Almost all the people admire, love and treat late chief minister Sri Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as a one of their family member. They celebrate christamas very grantly.
