Thai Union Group, also known as Thai Union Frozen Products Public Company Limited (or the acronym TUF), is a Thailand based producer of various seafood based food products.
For over 25 years, Thai Union Frozen Products PCL (TUF) has been bringing seafood products to customers across the world. Today, TUF is regarded as the world’s largest producer of shelf-stable tuna products and is ranked among the largest seafood producers in the world, with annual sales exceeding USD 3.6 billion and a global workforce of over 32,000 people.
Brand Portfolio
TUF's brand portfolio includes familiar international brands Chicken of the Sea, John West Foods, Petit Navire, Parmentier, Mareblu, and Century; as well as Thai-leading brands Sealect, Fisho and Bellotta.
TUF is a member of the United Nation Global Compact, and a founding member of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF).
Claiming to be Thailand’s largest canned-and frozen-seafood producer, it has processing plants in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the United States. Its 2010 purchase of MW Brands of France from Trilantic Capital Partners added plants in France, Portugal, the Seychelles and Ghana. Its fishing fleet consists of nine vessels, giving it a capacity of 500,000 metric tons (490,000 long tons; 550,000 short tons) of whole round fish, making it the world’s largest canned-tuna producer.[1]
Its brands include Chicken of the Sea and John West Foods.
History
Thai Union Group was established on 17 March 1988 as Asian Pacific Thai Tuna Co, Ltd. with initial capital of BT฿25 million. In October the company was renamed Thai Union Frozen Products Co, Ltd.
The company was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 22 November 1994.
In late 2010, Thai Union Frozen Products acquired MW Brands, the owner of John West from Trilantic Capital Partners.
In September 2014, the group signed a deal for MW Brands to take over 40-year old French company MerAlliance, the fourth largest smoked-salmon producer in Europe. The terms of the deal, which were expected to significantly enlarge the group's chilled seafood business, were not disclosed. MerAlliance's revenue for the year to 31 March 2014 was $220 million.[2]
