Thủ Dầu Một ( listen) is the capital city of Bình Dương Province, Vietnam, located at around 10°58′0″N 106°39′0″E / 10.96667°N 106.65000°E. The city has an area of 118.66 km², population is 244,277 (2012),[1] and is located 20 km north of downtown Hồ Chí Minh City, on the left bank of the Saigon River, upstream from the city. Although this is an administratively separate city, it is considered as a satellite city of the Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area.

Economy

Thủ Dầu Một has been seen a rapid expansion and economic development since 1997, as the province has become an important industrial hub of the region. In January 2007, this city was officially recognized as a third-class town,[2] It became a city in July 2012.[3] There is a 4200-ha urban-tech park under development here. Thủ Dầu Một will be a modern city within the Hồ Chí Minh City Metropolitan Area (including Thủ Dầu Một City, Nhơn Trạch City, Tân An City, Biên Hòa City and parts of Đồng Nai and Bình Dương provinces).
