The Texas Wrestling Academy (formerly known as The Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy) is a professional wrestling training school that was operated by Shawn Michaels and Rudy Boy Gonzalez (who is the sole operator of the school now). The school has produced many well-known wrestlers such as Brian Kendrick, Paul London, Bryan Danielson, Lance Cade, Shawn Hernandez, Matt Bentley and Milano Collection A.T.

History

After briefly retiring from active wrestling in 1998 after back surgery, Shawn Michaels opened the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy in April 1999 with Ken Johnson, Rudy Boy Gonzalez, and Jose Lothario.[1] They also started a wrestling promotion to go along with the school called the Texas Wrestling Alliance (TWA).[1]

In April 2001, Rudy Gonzalez became the sole operator of the company due to Shawn Michaels' new contract with WWE.[1]

Tribute show

A tribute to former WWE star Lance Cade, who was trained by Shawn Michaels, took place on March 5, 2011 at the Texas Wrestling Academy gym in San Antonio, Texas.[2] Cade died on August 13, 2010 as a result of heart failure.
