Texas State University Round Rock Campus (RRC) is the official name of Texas State University’s campus in Round Rock, Texas. Located just 20 miles (32 km) north of Austin, it is informally referred to as "Texas State–Round Rock." Construction began on the current campus in 2004 and opened its doors for the Fall semester in 2005. The campus hosts upper-level classes for eight bachelor's degrees and courses for eleven master's degrees and seven post bachelor's certificate programs.
History
The Round Rock Campus started in 1996 as the Round Rock Higher Education Center (RRHEC) and was housed in 15 portable buildings at the Westwood High School campus of the Round Rock Independent School District. Construction on a permanent campus, which is the RRC's current location, began in 2004 with the 125,000-square-foot (11,600 m2) Avery Building. The Avery Building opened its doors on August 26, 2005. In 2008, construction began on the campus' second building. The 77,740-square-foot (7,222 m2) Nursing Building opened its doors in 2010. The campus currently sits on 101 acres (0.41 km2) of property donated to Texas State University by the Avery family.[1]
Academics
A student can earn one of eleven master's degrees or seven post bachelor's certificate's by taking courses solely at the Round Rock Campus. The student does not have to attend classes at Texas State's main campus in San Marcos. The RRC also offers upper level courses to allow students to complete one of eight bachelor's degrees. Lower level courses for the bachelor's degrees can be taken at Texas State's San Marcos campus or transfer the courses from a community college or junior college.[2] The degrees that can be earned at the RRC are:[3][4][5]
