"Terry Unmarried" is the fourteenth episode of the second season of the American TV series The Cleveland Show. It aired on Fox on February 20, 2011. In this episode, When Cleveland discovers he and his wife are not actually married, and his best friend Terry is gay and in a relationship, they all decide to go to Vermont for a double wedding.

Plot

When he discovers that Donna has been lying about loving his special coffee blend, a hurt and angry Cleveland demands to know what else she has been hiding from him. She reveals that she never finalized her divorce. Cleveland realizes that this means he is technically still single so he and friends Holt, Lester and Tim the Bear make plans to go drinking at a new bar. They quickly learn that they are in a gay bar. After initially panicking, the four begin dancing and having fun. As they head for the exit they see two men kissing; the men turn out to be Cleveland's best friend Terry Kimple and Terry's boyfriend Paul. Terry and Paul suggest that Cleveland and Donna come to their house for dinner.

Meanwhile, Rallo is mystified to learn that his habit of picking and eating his nasal mucus is interfering with his ability to meet girls. He resolves to quit but initially cannot, until Cleveland, Jr. offers to help him. Rallo kicks his habit but discovers that Cleveland, Jr. is a closet eater.

Cleveland tells Donna that Terry is gay and is surprised that she already knows. He refuses to socialize with Terry and Paul and Donna calls him a homophobe. Cleveland, Jr. and Rallo's fight over their habits spills down into the living room. Cleveland tells them if they want to pick and eat they can but only in their rooms with the door closed. His realization that what people do with their bodies behind closed doors prompts an attitude change and Cleveland and Donna have dinner with Terry and Paul. Inspired by their love, Donna convinces Terry and Paul to "bring gay marriage to Virginia." When their attempt is met by a pitchfork-wielding mob, the two couples decide to have a double wedding in Vermont. Once in Vermont, Terry is reluctant to go through with the ceremony. Cleveland convinces him that Paul is his soulmate and both couples go ahead with their weddings.

Reception

Rowan Kaiser writing for The A.V. Club graded the episode a D+. He cited a strong opening gag featuring Cleveland, Jr. in homemade Iron Man armor and the later manifestation of his latent telekinetic powers as "about it for anything good from this episode". He complained that the nose-picking story went on too long.^[1]

A reviewer for the gay-interest website AfterElton.com praised the gay story line, calling it a vast improvement over other LGBT portrayals in Seth MacFarlane series and more mature than the typical "coming out" episode that many series have included dating back to the 1970s.^[2]
