Terrence Romeo

Terrence Bill V. Romeo (born March 16, 1992) is a Filipino professional basketball player for the GlobalPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association PBA.. He plays point guard and shooting guard. He played as a point guard for the Far Eastern University before being selected fifth overall in the 2013 PBA Draft by GlobalPort.^[2] He won the 2010 UAAP Rookie of the Year,^[3] was a member of the UAAP Mythical during his junior and senior year and was the 2013 UAAP men's basketball Most Valuable Player.^[4]

Amateur career

High School

As a high school basketball player for Far Eastern University - Diliman, he is famously known for scoring the UAAP Juniors basketball record of 83 points in Season 72. He also won UAAP Juniors' Most Valuable Player that same year.^[5]

College career

It was a smooth transition from juniors where Romeo won MVP in his fourth year, to the seniors division where he was named top rookie. But it hasn’t been as pretty after that. The shooting, for a shooting guard, was somewhat below par at 32 percent for 9.9 points in 2011. The boy who hit a record 83 points in a 2009 juniors game and as a college sophomore scored 23 points in a UAAP finals game could be a lot more help to the herd if he finds some consistency.^[6]

Next season, he averaged a team best 18.5 ppg, and also had 5.5 rpg and earned a place in the mythical five in UAAP Season 75. Half of FEU’s dreaded backcourt duo, Romeo is expected to again lead the Tamaraws in scoring. In UAAP Season 76, he was awarded as Most Valuable Player.

While in college, he took his talents in the PBA D-League, suiting up for Big Chill Super Chargers.^[7]

He elected to forgo his final playing year, after realizing that he will have to wait until 2015 to get drafted in the PBA.^[8]

Professional career

GlobalPort Batang Pier (2013-present)

He was selected by GlobalPort as their 5th overall pick, and wears the same No.7 jersey he wears in college. He explained that Robert Jaworski was his father's idol, who uses the same jersey number.^[9] In only his second game as a pro, he buried 34 points while going 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc en route to a win against Air21 Express. He also admitted that his idol growing up was Mark Caguioa. So much so that while learning the game in the street basketball courts of Imus, Cavite, Romeo said he honed his skills mostly trying to copy the moves of the ‘Fast and the Furious’ Ginebra tandem.

He also had the opportunity to play against mighty Caguioa in their first showdown, scoring 27 points and leading a brave second-half fightback that almost denied Ginebra a 109-104 victory.^[9]
