Terminology is a terminal emulator for the X Window System and for the Wayland graphic server. The software can also run in a framebuffer console that allows it to be used outside an X11 or Wayland graphic environment.[2] It can be used in different desktop environments, not only with the Enlightenment window manager.

Terminology provides some features not typically found in a terminal emulator, e.g., preview thumbnails of images, videos and documents.[3] It can work with multimedia playback and text-strings manipulation (copying and pasting filenames and urls),[4] and can be touch controlled.[2] On the other hand, it provides less complete emulation of vt100 than other terminals.[5]
