Templeton High School is a WASC accredited public high school providing ninth- through twelfth-grade education in Templeton, California.[1] In 2006, Templeton High School was nationally recognized as a (NCLB) Blue Ribbon School. It offers an impressive number of Advanced Placement classes, unusual for a school of its size.

Located at the end of Main Street. Enrollment has grown substantially during the past decade.[2] Currently the school comprises forty-three classrooms, a library, multi-purpose room, food services area, two locker complexes, eating areas, a gymnasium (with seating capacity for 1200), and a vocational/technology area composed of wood, metals, CAD, and ornamental horticulture classrooms.[2] An active 7-acre (2.8 ha) farm is located on “Ag Hill” with indoor/outdoor facilities for large and small animals.[2] A sports complex consisting of baseball fields is located at Vineyard Elementary School. A permanent restroom facility was added to the complex in 2005.[2] The Performing Arts Center opened its doors for the winter concerts in December 2002 with 340 seats and the new varsity stadium held its first football game in the fall of 2005.[2]

Technology

All T.H.S. graduates must fulfill a one-year computer course requirement, which can be satisfied through a variety of courses depending on their four-year plan and career goals. All students have accounts on the school’s network server. Each account represents a digital locker for students to store information and data necessary to complete assignments in all subject areas. The high school is participating in the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education’s Web Portal. This gateway provides standards-based digital resources to teachers and students throughout San Luis Obispo County at school and at home. Teachers and students have access to several innovative features, including Blackboard, an on-line learning tool that creates a virtual classroom. Teachers can post assignments, bulletins, and grades; organize lessons; archive resources and student work; e-mail students and parents; create homework chat rooms for students; and post website links for student research projects. The portal also includes United Streaming, a standards-aligned media library that can be used to deliver digital video to a student or teacher’s desktop computer.[2]

Templeton High School has 175 computer workstations located throughout the campus. In addition to the four computer labs, each classroom has at least one computer, and many classrooms have multiple computers or mini-labs. Each computer is connected to the district’s Wide Area Network (WAN) as well as the Internet via a high-speed fiber-optic network. Through a collective project with the other school districts the county, they were able to use Digital California Project Funds to install a DS-3 circuit to access the Internet. Teachers use the WAN to share information with their colleagues and to provide students a central location to access their files. All attendance, business, grades, and student records are computerized. Administration and staff utilize electronic mail, time management, and classroom management software daily, and use the WAN to share data with the district office. Technical assistance is provided by the district’s Technology Center which is located on the high school campus. The Technology Center is staffed with a full-time Director of Technology, Network Technician, and Computer Technician. The Computer Technician teaches an ROP Computer Service and Repair course. Students in this class learn valuable job skills and provide additional technical support to the district. One staff member is certified as a Level 9000 technology mentor by the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education. and assists staff in integrating technology into their curricula through formal and informal training sessions.[2]

Extra Curricular

Templeton High School is home to an outstanding band program, including a concert band, jazz band, marching band, winter drum line and winter guard. The marching band is very successful, especially for its size, numbering under 50 individuals. They placed first in their division and were overall best band in the Atascadero Colony Days Band Competition in 2009 and 2013. All the programs are unique and beneficial to both students and community.

The school mock trial team has also had a long history of success. The team has won the county competition and proceeded to state finals for 12 of the last 15 years. In 2009/2010, the team medaled at state finals in San Jose, CA and also won two first place awards for individuals.
