Teloschistes chrysophthalmus is a fruticose lichen with branching lobes that form small orange, nearly spherical tufts with spiny projections.[1][2][3] It has a global distribution.[4] It grows on California live oak, dwarf coyote brush, and magnolias. "Teloschistes" means "split ends".[2]
