Teheranno (alternatively Teheran-ro, translation “Tehran Boulevard”) is a street in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea. It runs from Gangnam Station through Yeoksam-dong and into Samseong-dong. It is colloquially known as “Teheran Valley” (after Silicon Valley) due to the number of internet-related companies operating there, including major domestic internet portals Daum and Naver as well as Google. Samsung Electronics and Hynix both operate offices here as well. Various Korean and international financial and business institutions including POSCO, Standard Chartered and Citibank also maintain offices here. Some of Korea's tallest skyscrapers and most expensive real estate are on Teheranno, while Seoul Metropolitan Government estimates that more than half of Korea's venture capital, some 200,000,000,000 won (approximately $200,000,000), is invested in Teheran Valley.[1]

Teheranno is a 3.5 km section of Korean Highway 90, and runs eastwards from Gangnam Station to Samseong Station and the COEX/KWTC complex. Yeoksam and Seolleung stations are also on Teheranno. All stations are on Seoul Subway Line 2.

Name

In 1976, the Seoul Metropolitan Government suggested that the city of Seoul and Tehran, pre-revolutionary Iran exchange the names of streets on the occasion of the visit to Korea of Gholamreza Nikpay, Mayor of Tehran. The following year, the street previously named Samneungno was renamed Teheranno, which ran through a relatively underdeveloped area recently annexed into Seoul (in 1963). (There is a street in Tehran called - Seoul Street). In the following years, the district of Gangnam-gu experienced phenomenal growth and waves of construction that continues even today, with Teheranno becoming one of the busiest streets in South Korea. Seoul St. in Tehran runs in the north of that city, close to the Evin district.

Controversy

Controversy of technology and open embrace to Iran in its current state over the Iranian Space Agency remains definite. While there is no proof of Iran's establishment over South Korea, the lack of policy from the nation had allowed a steadfast development of Iran's unchecked technology sector. Iran's stance of nuclear armament is a factor being manipulated by Israel's excuse to arm itself with nuclear weapons. To this date, trade between South Korea and Iran is still being conducted despite Iran's and North Korea's economic sanction. The economic sanction of Iran's oil is not enough as its current technological development and held oil supply will fuel its alternative for nuclear development. While it may be too late to stop another Russian substitute, little can be said on South Korea's stance on North Korea's potential political partner.[2][3][4]
