Taylor Morgan (born 21 October 1990 in Southampton) is an English footballer who currently plays for Falkirk F.C. in the Scottish Championship on loan from Östersunds FK of the Superettan.
Career
Amateur
Taylor joined the Southampton F.C. academy at the age of 10 and remained there for four years before joining the Queens Park Rangers academy for two years. Morgan then spent two seasons with the England U-18,[1] before moving to the United States on a college scholarship through the Pass4Soccer Scholarships Agency.[2] He spent his first year at Central Connecticut State University before transferring to George Mason University for his final three years. He finished with 23 goals and 7 assists in 50 appearances for the George Mason Patriots (including 13 goals in 19 matches as a senior to lead the Colonial Athletic Association).[3] During his time at college, he also appeared for the Chicago Fire Premier of the USL Premier Development League.
Toronto FC
Morgan was drafted by Toronto FC in the fourth round (58th overall) in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. He joined the team for its 2013 pre-season training camp and officially signed with them on 1 March 2013.[4] He then made his debut for the team on 2 March 2013 in Toronto's MLS season opener against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at the BC Place Stadium in which he came on as a 75th minute substitute for Terry Dunfield.[5] Morgan was released by Toronto on 14 May 2013, after making only one substitute appearance.[6]
Östersunds FK
After being released by Toronto FC, Morgan signed with Swedish football club Östersunds FK on 9 August 2013.[7] He scored his first two goals for the club on 21 August 2013 against Vänersborgs IF in the Svenska Cupen in which he scored in the 41st and 69th minutes of the match to lead Östersunds to a 5–0 victory.[8] He then scored his first two league goals for the club on 14 September 2013 against Varbergs BolS in which he scored coming off the bench in the 82nd and 87th minutes of the match to help Östersunds to a 3–0 victory.[9]
Morgan then scored his third goal for the club on 19 October against Ljungskile SK in which he found the net in the 90th minute to help Östersunds to a 3–1 victory.[10]
Falkirk (loan)
After the 2014 Superettan season concluded, Morgan signed with Scottish Championship side Falkirk on loan till the end of the season.[11] He made his debut for the side on 10 January 2015 against Hibernian after coming on as a substitute.[12]
Personal
Taylor's father played semi-pro soccer in England. Taylor supports Arsenal, while his father and younger brother are supporters and season ticket holders of Queen's Park Rangers. Two weeks before being drafted by Toronto FC, Morgan, on vacation, went to a QPR game, not knowing at the time that he would be watching his soon-to-be coach Ryan Nelsen's final professional game as a player. He attended Hamble Community Sports College in Southampton alongside Olympic Cyclist Dani King and Burnley striker Danny Ings. While at college, he worked towards a psychology degree, which he hopes he can use down the line in continuing a career in soccer after playing.[13]
