Tariq Chowdhury (Bengali: তারেক চৌধুরী; born 1988) is an English documentary filmmaker and cinematographer of Bangladeshi descent.

Education

Chowdhury was born in the United Kingdom but brought up in Bangladesh. From 1996 to 2001, he attended Chittagong Grammar School. In 2004, he attended Sunbeams School. In 2006, he attended Ilford County High School. From 2006 to 2007, he read Physics at University of Oxford. In 2010, he graduated with a degree in History, Economics and Arabic from the School of Oriental and African Studies. In 2014, he graduated with a degree in Film and Television Documentary from University of Hertfordshire.[1]

Career

Chowdhury is a director, director of photography and editor. In 2010, his first short film Faith in London premiered at British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA),[1] it was runner up of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation's Faith Shorts,[2][3] aired on BBC One[4] and screened globally by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.[5]

In 2014, Chowdhury wrote and directed the documentary The Elephant in the Room, which was narrated by actress and Born Free Foundation founder Virginia McKenna[6][7] and explores the plight of captive elephants across Europe.[8]

Personal life

Chowdhury is a Muslim[3] and is from East London.[9]
