Tamboli
The Tamboli are a Hindu caste found in North India.[1]
"Tamboli" is taken from "Tambool" which means "Betel Leaf" in Sanskrit, and are traditionally engaged in the selling of betel-leaves, which traditionally they also cultivated. They speak various local dialects of Hindi. The community is found throughout central and North part of India particularly Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.[2]
Present circumstances
They have set up their own caste association, the Maghaiya Tamboli Hitasi Samaj, which acts as a community welfare associations. The Tamboli last name is also found in Hindus, and are fairly orthodox.[3]
