Talap is a town on NH 17 between Kannur and Payyanur, in Kerala in southern India. Large areas of land near the town are under sugarcane cultivation. 2 of the prominent hospitals are AKG and Koyli. Kumaran Memorial Hospital established with funds from USA was discontinued and the buildings sold recently. The largest temple in Talap is the Sree Sundareswara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Old Bus stand Kannur is located in Talap. At present due to new bus stand, only a limited number of buses enter the old bus stand at Talap. Government School Talap, Sree Narayana Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School Talap, Chinmaya Mission College Talap and Chinmaya Balabhavan, Talap are the major educational institutions of Talap. Climatic conditions of Talap shows no variation from that of the other regions of Kannur district. It rains heavily in the months of June, July, August and September. There is no winter season as such as it is in most other parts of Kerala. Since Talap is located very near to the coast, one can often experience the sea breeze.
