Taddeo Alderotti

Taddeo Alderotti (c.1210 – 1295) was a medieval Florentine alchemist who developed fractional distillation.[1] He became a master at the University of Bologna and gained great wealth and fame from his medical practice. Dante seems to reference him in the Paradiso (XII, 82-85), indicating he pursued learning not for spiritual reasons but worldly ambition, contrasting him with St. Dominic.[2]
