Ṫābi‘ al-Ṫābi‘īn (Arabic: تابع التابعين) is the generation after the Ṫābi‘īn in Islam. Sunni Muslims include them among the best generations on Earth, along with the Ṫābi‘īn and the Sahaba.[1]
Definition according to the Sunnis
The Sunnis define a Ṫābi‘ at-Ṫābi‘īn as a Muslim who:
- Saw at least one of the Ṫābi‘īn.
- Was rightly guided. (That would be, according to Sunnis, one who adheres to the beliefs and actions of the Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah).
- And the one who died in that state. Sunnis consider the Ṫabā‘ at-Ṫābi‘īn as the best generation after the Ṫābi‘īn.
According to them Muhammad said, "The best people are those living in my generation, then those coming after them (Ṫābi‘īn), and then those coming after (the second generation)" Sahih Bukhari[2]

Abū Ḥanīfa is considered by some to have been one of the Tabi'een, the generation after the Sahabah, and by others to be from the Ṫābi‘ al-Ṫābi‘īn.
