Tabarak Hussain (Bengali: তবারক হুসাইন; born: 1924) was a Bangladeshi career diplomat.[4][5]
Early life and education
Tabarak Hussain completed his undergraduate degree and post graduation in Economics from University of Dhaka in 1942.[4] He then obtained his postgraduate degree in International Relations from London School of Economics, United Kingdom.[5]
Personal life
Hussain married Uzra Hussain, daughter of Justice Amin Ahmed. They has three sons (Riaz Hussain, Jamil Hussain & Taher Husain). His wife died in 2011.[3]
Career
Hussain joined the Pakistan Foreign Service as a member of the first regular batch in 1949.[4] He served in different positions in the Pakistan diplomatic missions in India, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Thailand. He served as Foreign Secretary, of Government of Bangladesh from 1975 to 1978. During the period, he visited summit level meetings in nine countries on bilateral visits. He also visited Moscow twice in 1975 and 1976 as a single member delegation to discuss bilateral issues.[4]
- 1949: Joined Pakistan Foreign Service
- 1968: Appointed as Director General in the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Ambassadorial rank.[4]
- 1971: Appointed as Ambassador to Algeria but due to Independence movement of Bangladesh, he was detained in Karachi, Pakistan.[6]
- 15-11-1975 to 06-09-1978: Hussain served as Foreign Secretary, Government of Bangladesh.[2]
- 1978-1982: Ambassador of Bangladesh to United States of America.[1][5]
- 1982: Retired from Service of Bangladesh Government.[5]
- 1995-1996: Chairman of Sadharan Bima Corporation.
- 2002-2010: Chairman of Grameen Bank, one of the largest microcredit institutions of the world.[7]
Awards
Tabarak Hussain was awarded Sitara-i-Khidmat (Star of Service) by Government of Pakistan in 1968.
